Delivering Image Files
Files can be delivered by CD or web download, according to what the patron requests. Before files are delivered, make sure they are 3000 pixels for full resolution TIFFs, or 1000 pixels for JPEGs. Because most of the patrons are very uneducated about file types, they often do not know what they are actually requesting when they ask for a TIFF or JPEG. They might even think that a 5 Mb file is enormous! Do not be surprised if you deliver files and they come back and ask for something else. This makes it very important to keep a full sized working TIFF even when they ask for a JPEG, because you may have to go back and send the TIFF as well.
Never give a master file to the patron, unless that has been specifically requested (we get a few media jobs like this).
CDs
- Use Roxio to burn the CD. Use 12X or 16X burn speed, as older CD readers sometimes have trouble reading disks burned at higher speeds.
- Don't rename the disk. Just use whatever Roxio assigns.
- Include the blue sheets and all applicable working files.
- Don't write anything on the CD. Just put it in the box with the order.
Web Download
- Log in to the server and make a folder in /public with the patron's last name only.
- Include the blue sheets and upload all applicable working files.
- After the files are uploaded, start Mozilla and go to mail. Log in to fyimage and go to the templates folder. Select the correct template (one is for single image orders, one is for multiple) and double click it to get an editable email. Put the patron's email in first address line and leave the other CC: lines as they are. Add the folder name you created to the URL in the message body so the patron can click on it and it will take them directly to their folder. Send the email, then check the account a few minutes later to make sure the mail didn't bounce back.
