Storage and Display of Inkjet PrintsWe use Epson Ultrachrome inks and Epson, Hahnemuhle, Red River, and other speciality inkjet papers in our Epson inkjet printers. Inkjet prints can last for many years if they are properly stored and displayed. Improperly displayed prints may discolor very quickly, due to reactions with the inks and paper surface with chemicals such as ozone in the air. We produce prints that exceed publication quality; however, you should always check with your publisher to see if they will accept files rather than prints, as files retain much more information than a print. We will be happy to work with you to get the files into a format the publisher wants, and to assist you with delivery if necessary. What paper do you use? We use an enhanced matter paper for all of our printing with the exception of the HP poster jet. Our matte papers have the greatest longevity as they are all acid-free. Matte paper is excellent for prints which will be framed or displayed on a long term basis, although if the print is being stored elsewhere it should have an extra sheet of paper on top of it if possible as matte tends to scratch easily. How should I display my print? All prints should be professionally framed for the greatest longevity. Epson recommends using UV-protective glass in the frame. This is available from most framing shops. Humidity, heat, light (especially sunlight), and pollution all have detrimental effects on prints, so it is best to store or display them away from as many of these factors as possible. Avoid south-facing windows when possible, as direct sunlight may accelerate the aging process, especially when combined with other environmental factors. Some photographers recommend using an archival fixative spray to lengthen a print's durability and lifespan, although we do not do this ourselves.
