Digital Photographic Services

We provide professional digital imaging services to the university community and to the public. We happily welcome visits! Our hours are 8am-4:30pm. We specialize in working with old materials such as albums and delicate original negatives and prints and with large items such as maps and original artwork.

New through the store!! A memento book for Alaska's 50 years of Statehood. This book compiles photographs and history to show readers when Alaskans were pushing to become part of the United States of America 50 years ago. It is 23 pages long and contains 18 photos for your viewing pleasure. If you are interested in ordering a copy or have any questions please email us at or call at (907)474-6344.

We can scan prints up to 40" by 60" in a single pass, and can scan film formats from 35mm up to 8x10 and panorama. Our large format photo printers can make prints up to 24" wide by almost any length (the longest print to date is 25 feet long). Our large-format plotter can produce professional posters and other large prints up to 54" wide by many feet long.

Running a labful of some of the best equipment in the state requires an exceptional staff. Our staff and students are highly trained and will ensure that you get the best product possible.

News & Events

Reprints of historical photos and antique maps make great gifts! Visit The Alaska History Store and choose from hundreds of photos and maps, all with secure online ordering.

New Items in the Galleries April 2007:

*The Bradford Washburn Collection is in the process of being scanned. Part of it is up and available for browsing.

*Other new collections include material from the Donald E. Young, Candace Waugaman, and Seiffert Family Photograph collections.

*Coming soon: More images from the Crosson Family Papers will soon be available for browsing.

We also run the Alaska History Store, providing reprints of many of our most popular photographs and maps. These reprints may be purchased directly from us as long as they are not for commercial or public use. Twice yearly we also conduct public sales events: in July during Golden Days, and in December. During these sales, you can browse through thousands of extra darkroom reprints and purchase store reprints at a discount. Click here for more information about these sales.

We have several online image galleries that are the result of many scanning projects and contain over 30,000 historical photos, several hundred rare maps, and other books and documents. Please take a look around and enjoy a peek at Alaska history through some great collections. Many of these images have also been added to Alaska's Digital Archives.

If you are interested in obtaining copies of the gallery images, store images for other than personal use, or any other images from the Alaska & Polar Regions archives or photograph collections, please go to the APR website or call (907) 474-6594 for information about accessing the collections and placing photo orders.
